Our cotton is GOTS Certified organic & our print factory is Okeo Tex certified.

Fauna Kids is a small brand but being eco conscious is a big thing for us. I'd be lying if I said I went into business because I was solely passionate about sustainability, I was & am passionate about print, colour & illustration. I've been an artist all of my life. However, for Fauna Kids I have always chosen sustainability over costs. Being a responsible business is more expensive. Raw materials, garments, packaging and everything in between costs more because it's done better and fairer to the planet and workers. I would say 'our sustainability journey' when speaking about the brand but the journey is really mine since all the brand decisions are mine. Right now I'm a one woman show in Ireland, but my suppliers are teams of people. I carefully choose my suppliers and constantly work to improve how we work. We are a work in progress but here is where we are.

Our sweatshirts & t-shirts

First of all, all of my sweatshirts & t-shirts are hand printed to order. I use water based inks that do not need solvent cleaners. My sweatshirts & t-shirts arrive in zero plastic and the boxes they come in are reused. I break the boxes down and keep them in storage, then rebuild them with eco paper adhesive tape to use for wholesale orders.

Our Fauna Kids & Baby Collection

Our collections designed solely by me are made from 100% organic cotton. Each new batch of cotton comes with a GOTS transaction certificate stating it's origin. We make small runs and work hard to use everything with as little waste as possible. I have made defective garments into teethers etc. in the past so as not to waste any fabric whatsoever. We continue to close our errors margin and I also sell our slightly flawed items at a heavily reduced rate so as not to waste anything at all. We have also donated garments to a womens shelter in Dublin. I've always had a no-frills modest approach to how I run things.

Our Packaging

I source our gift boxes which are 100% recyclable & biodegradable locally. They are hand printed with water based ink.

Our shipping mailers are 100% paper and eco-friendly and sourced from an Irish eco-conscious company. The pens we use are eco pens with refills.

Our packing tape is paper and the brown kraft paper we use to wrap the larger orders is cut in Ireland from damaged waste reels and sold to us in loose, uneven sheets.

Our tissue supplier is part of the Eco-Packaging Alliance which contributes to global reforestation.

The following is a statement directly from our sweatshirt & t-shirt supplier

"From Field To Fashion

It's a long journey from the cotton field to the final product, and at every step of the complex supply chain we aim to ensure the highest level of responsibility. Our organic cotton, sourced from India, goes through a number of stages as it moves from the cotton farm to a finished decorated garment to be sold in Europe.

We work only with 100% organic cotton & recycled materials

We work closely with our suppliers to source only the best raw materials, grown or produced in ways that do not harm people, animals or the environment. We exclusively use 100% GOTS certified organic cotton from India, recycled polyester from China and other sustainable materials such as Modal®.

We are certified by the best

Our supply chain is certified by various independent bodies and standards. Each of these certifications demonstrate that we are working towards building healthy environmental practices and greater respect for the planet, every step of the way. We also encourage our Dealers to implement GOTS Certified printing techniques which use non-harmful inks and sustainable production methods. So that we can affirm that our finalized, decorated garments are 100% fully sustainable.

We check every step of the process

To ensure the safety of all our workers, we work very closely with the Fair Wear Foundation(FWF) and support our partners with their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) approach. After an extensive social audit, we have been attributed ‘Leader’ status by FWF, certifying that we’re showing best practices in complex areas such as freedom of association. We also have a number of mechanisms in place to ensure decent working conditions, such as an internal Code of Conduct, monthly reports and daily visits to our partner factories.

We are conscious of our environmental impact

We collect data from across our supply chain to gain a better understanding of our environmental impact and help us work towards minimizing it. All our partner factories are equipped with state-of-the art Effluent Treatment Plants which remove toxic elements from the water and ensure it’s safe to be reused. Taking things further, we also have developed a recycling fabric waste project."

The following is a statement from our blank baby clothing supplier (the basics we hand print)

"We Only Use Certified Organic Cotton

Our clothing is created using the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), the world’s leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibers. Only products that contain a minimum of 70% organic fibers can become GOTS certified. All accessories, dyes, and other inputs must meet certain environmental and toxicological criteria.

Organic cotton is grown naturally and sustainably, without herbicides, pesticides or any other harmful chemicals. These safe farming methods preserve the soil, conserve energy, and help to protect the health of the people in the community where the cotton is grown. It also keeps our cotton clothing free of chemicals."

I'll continue to update this page as we improve our practices. I promise to improve, never go backward, on our sustainability goals while serving up fun, fresh design.
